Description
The Goldendoodle was developed by crossing a
Golden Retriever with a Poodle. The way it looks
varies. Most types have a coat that is either short and
curly or long and shaggy. The coat of the shaggy
types is long all across the body. The long fur also
covers the face, almost obstructing the eyes. The
head is comparable in size to the rest of the body.
The eyes and nose are dark. The nose is large. The
ears are medium size and hang low at the sides of the
head. For the short and curly type Goldendoodle, the
coat is close to the body and tightly curled. The tail
tends to be more puffy at the tail and front legs. The
muzzle is longer than on the shaggy type. The ears
for this type are long and hang low.
Temperament
The Goldendoodle is a loving, loyal dog and has a
keen sense of smell. They can be taught to enjoy
swimming, as both the retriever and Poodle
elements of their heritage normally enjoy water.
Goldendoodles are intelligent, friendly, and great
with kids, just like their Golden Retriever and
Standard Poodle parents. They are easily trained,
highly social, and by nature are easy with
strangers and other dogs. They love to play, and
commonly retain the strong retrieving instincts of
the Golden Retriever. The Goldendoodle should not
be trained as a watchdog as it is highly unlikley that
he will respond to this type of aggression. The
Goldendoodle has a very pleasant It is an acceptable
companion for children and will coexist peacefully
with other pets in the home. The breed will display
loyalty to its family, but probably not to the extent of
being a guard dog. In addition to its happy
personality, one of the breeds greatest attributes is
its intelligence. Training is not a problem with this
breed. It learns quickly and enjoys the mental
exercise. Most breeds are more trainable at an early
age. Older Goldendoodles are unique in that they
respond to training just as younger types.
Height and Weight
Male height: 21-24 inchesMale weight: 55-75
poundsFemale height: 20-22 inchesFemale weight:
45-65 pounds, although mine tend to be within the 45
to 55lb range.
Health
There are no serious health problems associated with
the Goldendoodle.
Ideal Living Conditions
The Goldendoodle can easily adapt to its living
conditions. The breed is suitable for large open
spaces, such as on a ranch or farm. However, it will
do fine in a home or apartment in a suburban
environment. In regards to living conditions, what the
Goldendoodle requires most is social interaction. An
environment that does not provide opportunities for
social interaction is not recommended.
Exercise
The Goldendoodle is an active breed that will
automatically engage in activities involving physical
exercise, as long as its environment permits it. The
breed requires a significant amount of exercise, but it
will generally obtain a large percentage of this
requirement on its own through playing or running in
the yard. To make sure the breed receives the
exercise it needs, a daily walk or run is
recommended. Goldendoodles that live indoors
require more exercise.
Life Expectancy
The Goodledoodle generally lives for many years. On
average, the breed has a life expectancy of 15 years.
Litter Size
Knowing the average number of puppies a
Goldendoodle has is difficult since the breed has not
been existence that long. The best way to measure
this information is to consider the breeds combined
to develop it. The Golden Retriever typically has 8
puppies and a Poodle typically has 3-8 puppies. It is
safe to say that the Goldendoodle has an average of
3-8 puppies.
Grooming
Regardless of the type of coat the breed has, the
Goldendoodle requires very little maintenance.
Regular brushing is recommended. Occasional
bathing is also a good idea, as long as a gentle
shampoo is used.
Origin
Hybrid or crossbreeds, such as the Goldendoodle,
typically have an unusual origin.

Color
The Goldendoodle is generally a light color of ivory,
orangish-brown colors, or dark brown or black and
sometimes white.
The Goldendoodles will be low to no dander, low to no shedding, and tend to be
allergy friendly. I have sold to allergy families that have stated they have had no
problems. They will be between 40 and 50lbs at maturity and are GREAT for
families, service and therapy dogs!
